Arriving first on scene with eight fellow smokejumpers, the spotter is called upon to provide vital information and make critical decisions regarding initial attack. The safe and effective deployment of jumpers and initial attack paracargo is a spotter's primary concern. Airspace management of multiple firefighting aircraft, logistical planning and mission management are also important aspects of the job.
The air operations section is responsible for the training of spotters and jumpship pilots, and provides management oversight for the contract of smokejumper aircraft. |
