The Alaska Smokejumpers are a branch of the Alaska Fire Service and the Bureau of Land Management. Since 1959, we have protected federal, state and private lands in Alaska and the lower 48 states from the threat of wildfires.

The Alaska Smokejumpers are highly trained wildland firefighters. Parachuting into remote areas to conduct initial and extended attack operations, we specialize in combating wildfires that threaten life and property.

The Alaska crew provides qualified personnel to the BLM Boise and U.S. Forest Service Smokejumper Bases throughout fire season, as well as skilled members of overhead teams on large fires and prescribed fire assignments. About a third of the current 88 crewmembers are Emergency Medical Technicians.
